<p>If you are planning on traveling with this mat be aware that it is heavy, so if it is a long way from the car to the studio it&#8217;ll be some work. I purchased the Manduka BlackMatPRO about a month ago and I really do love it.</p>
<p>If you bring your own mat you always know where it&#8217;s been. Plus, owning your own mat may encourage you to begin valuable practice at home.</p>
<p>I am enjoying this mat tremendously! It is very supportive throughout the entire yoga class.</p>
<p>The chemical smell that I had read about is definitely noticeable the first few times you use it but goes away rather quickly. It&#8217;s a lovely, high quality mat. This is a must buy! Very durable for all of his activities and easy to roll up and put away. This is the Mercedes of yoga mats and padded enough for Pilates too. It is pricey, but you will not be disappointed!</p>
<p>I purchased this mat for one reason and one reason only. It&#8217;s great for stretching exercises. I was unable to hold any of the poses that required stretching my legs and feet without slipping. After spending $80 on this mat I was not ready to spend another $50 on a yoga towel to cover it. She has been using hers for over 2 years and it still looks like new. It took a few weeks for the coating (makes it a little slippery at first) and the scent to dissipate, but after the initial break-in period, this mat has stood up to lots of wear. I&#8217;m pretty bummed about this mat. I never slipped on my crappy old mat, no matter how wet and sweaty, and on this one I am fighting the mat in every Down Dog, even when it&#8217;s dry.</p>
<p>I contacted Manduka and they explained that the slipping is common during the THREE MONTH BREAK IN PERIOD! They recommend I do 3 sea salt/water treatments on my mat and promised I would be happy after that. The smell did not bother me; I clean it with a lavender scented nontoxic cleanser. I like that it is a bit longer, I almost wish I would have got the 81&#8243;. I bought two so that my husband and I could both use one when working out together. The first one I bought from Beachbody for the Plyometrics workout.</p>
<p>It has been through a lot of tough and demanding workouts such as Plyometrics and CardioX and it still looks the same as the day I bought it. I originally felt iffy about spending $80 on a yoga mat, but now that I have I&#8217;m happy because I know I will never need to buy another one for the rest of my life.</p>

Investing in this superior mat (especially if you are a beginner) is well worth the money; it will enhance your performance and build your confidence. This is an awesome yoga mat. Though the cost makes one pause before hitting the order button it simply blows you away once you start using it. Those who do ashtanga will enjoy the stability of the mat.</p>
<p>I am a heavy build and muscular around 225. This mat is a good length for me, has just the right thickness and does not skid at all, highly recommended. It&#8217;s a pain in the butt to schlepp around as it very heavy and I also had to get a special bag (available from Manduka) for it as well, as my standard issue bag was too small for it, but it&#8217;s worth it! I have been using 2 thinner mats for about 3 years and finally spent the money for a really good mat. It&#8217;s worth every penny, a great investment. Very thick and shock absorbent. It is a dense, rubbery mat that makes my hands and feet really stick during my yoga. I also use it for my Plyometrics (jump training) and ab workouts. Manduka&#8217;s mats have a unique dotted bottom surface that holds the mat in place during your practice. It looks unlike any other mat you&#8217;ve ever seen. <p>If you are 6&#8217;0&#8243; tall or over, the 71&#8243; mat may be a bit too short. Go ahead and get the 85&#8243; mat and your toes won&#8217;t ever be off the mat during an upward dog pose.</p>
<p>I washed it as suggested, with a brush and soap, and let it dry in the sun for 2 days. It still has the slippery film on it, despite all that and using it about 6 times.</p>
<p>I bought the mat because I was wearing them out every year or two and I expect that this one will last for a long time. My Anusara yoga instructor at Lake Center Yoga outside of Orlando has one that he has used for nearly 20 years and another that is about 10 years old. I love this mat; I have been using it for a while. It was just so heavy and I found it difficult to carry to lessons. Once you get it you&#8217;ll know what I&#8217;m talking about. It&#8217;s thick unlike every other mat out there. The yoga mat I previously used was far too thin, causing strain on my knees, feet and hands, as the floors in my apartment are cement. The Manduka is very thick and dense, minimizing the floor&#8217;s impact. It weighs about 10 pounds. Overall, as a regular yoga practitioner and teacher, I feel it is well worth the money for someone who does a lot of yoga. Plus it comes with a lifetime guarantee. I will never use another type of mat again.</p>
<p>When you first use it there may be a slight slip from the film, but the more you use it the better the traction that you get. It always lays flat and does not bunch up like other mats will.</p>
<p>The 71&#8243; length is perfect for me and I am six feet tall. Yes, it is heavier than other mats but I see that as a positive as it is more substantial than regular mats. It&#8217;s a bit expensive, but I&#8217;m glad I got it anyway &#8211; that&#8217;s the ONLY reason I give it four stars and not five, is due to the price. Also, this mat is a bit too heavy for travel, so if you go to a yoga class or some other exercise class, you may want a lighter and less cumbersome mat.</p>
<p>The Black Mat is the only one that works. It grips perfectly and I don&#8217;t even need the towel under my hands.</p>

<p>So I practice both Bikram and regular flow based yoga. This is a great mat for both; I really appreciate the extra thickness/cushioning. It is the best I have ever used. One drawback, though, is the weight. Manduka provides great customer service, and the mat has a guarantee no matter where you buy it. Manduka mats have the longest break-in time of any mat I&#8217;ve owned, but they are so worth it! As for me, I think I&#8217;ll try the Drishti next. My husband and I both do the P90X workouts and I have to say for all of you out there, this is the BEST mat we&#8217;ve found. Even if the heaviness were to bother me, I can&#8217;t see myself leaving it at home to practice on one of the community mats at my studio. I&#8217;ve already become spoiled by how firm and sticky it is compared to other mats. I purchased this mat for one reason and one reason only. It&#8217;s great for stretching exercises.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re just starting yoga, start with a regular mat, but if you&#8217;re committed, you&#8217;ll want this product. Best yoga mat I&#8217;ve found on the market.</p>
<p>I would recommend it in a second for any serious or professional yogi. It&#8217;s a great mat, solid, stable, but didn&#8217;t fit my needs. My knees need a little TLC and they are so much happier since I have been using this mat. I think this is a great option for at home, but it&#8217;s a little heavy to be carting to classes on public transportation.</p>
<p>Surely I have spent well over $100 and have not had any return on that investment. The Manduka is different, I believe the claims that it too will last for years.</p>
<p>To me, it&#8217;s the perfect balance between firmness and support. At 71&#8243; long, it is slightly longer than your average mat, great for taller people, who tend to spill over on smaller mats.</p>
<p>I laid it out in the sun all day. Washed it twice, used it four times, but still slippery. I&#8217;ve been doing aggressive vinyasa flow level 2-3 yoga classes for three years now, and have gone through quite a few mats that start deteriorating quickly, slip when sweaty, and have little knee padding for some strenuous poses. I&#8217;ve been using the black 71&#8243; Manduka mat for about 3 months now, and although I still slip a little bit when sweaty, the dense padding is worth the extra carrying around weight of this mat, as is the extra wide width.</p>
